Artist Bio
Fran Siegel's light driven drawings and installations are known to engage perceptual shifts within architectural environments. Siegel's work was included in "Slash-Paper Under the Knife" at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City earlier this year. Siegel represented the United States in the IX International Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador. Recent site-specific projects include From and About Place: 7 artists from Los Angeles at The Center for Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv, and Rogue Wave at LA Louver. Siegel has been awarded a 2010 prestigious California Community Foundation Fellowship from the Getty Trust and a residency award at the Bogliasco Foundation in Italy. Previous grants include an Individual Artist Fellowship from The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (C.O.L.A.), The American Academy in Rome, and The Fund for U.S. Artists. Siegel earned her M.F.A. from Yale University School of Art, and B.F.A. from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia and Rome. She a professor in the Art Department at California State University Long Beach, which boasts the largest publicly funded art program in the nation. Published reviews of her work can be found in Art in America, Art News, Asian Art News, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, Art New England, ArtWeek, Arts, and Sculpture Magazines.
