Artist Bio
Focusing on the interaction between light, space and geography, Fran Siegel’s drawings and installations are graceful and collage-like structures. Her light-reactive works ultimately aim to create a highly subjective space, one that requires from the viewer a durational engagement of looking and participation. Siegel’s pieces have been recently exhibited at: Margaret Thatcher Projects, New York; Museum of Art and Design, New York; Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena; and LA Louver, Los Angeles. In 2007, Siegel represented the United States in the IX International Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador and is a recipient of numerous grants, awards and fellowships from institutions including: The Getty CCF Grant, The American Academy in Rome, The Bogliasco Foundation, The Fund for US Artists, Edward Albee Foundation, as well as The City of Los Angeles C.O.L.A. Fellowship. S iegel’s work has received much attention and has been reviewed by The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Art in America, Sculpture, ArtNews, among others. A professor of drawing and painting at California State University Long Beach, Siegel has given lectures around the world. She earned her Master of Fine Arts degree at Yale University and her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. Siegel currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
