Artist Bio
Radcliffe Bailey creates his mixed media paintings by piecing together ancestral photographs, collected objects, and painted words and maps. Unified by a painterly abstraction, rich color, formal balance, and pattern, Bailey's dynamic wall assemblages tell a multi-layered narrative which explores the social and cultural history of African-Americans as well as Bailey's personal history and influences. Born in 1968 in New Jersey, Bailey now lives and works in Atlanta. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Atlanta College of Art in 1991. His work is permanently installed in the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and in numerous permanent collections including The Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The High Museum of Art, and The Art Institute of Chicago.
