Geoff Mowery

Ohio wildlife artist Geoff Mowery specializes in original wildlife, American sporting art and contemporary art paintings and prints in egg tempera and oil.

“I studied art at the creative Choinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, but it was the knowledge of a friend of mine from the Philadelphia Academy that allowed me to master the egg tempera medium.” Egg tempera is a mixture of natural color pigments and egg yolk, which results in a tough, permanent finish.

“Man can only copy what nature creates. He can never come close to duplicating its beauty. That is why I strive for accuracy in my paintings. Whether it’s the texture of a raccoon’s fur or the molting of a wood duck’s feathers, the subject must reflect not only its own inherent character, but how it is affected by the seasons.”
