Mary Obering was born in Shreveport, Louisiana and is currently active. She studied at the University of Denver where she received her MFA in 1971.
Obering divides her time between New York and Italy. Her work, which combines traditional Renaissance techniques with rigorous formalism, derived from American minimalism art and clearly reflects her peregrinations. Her current works favor the use of egg tempera and gold leaf on gessoed panels.
