Painter and printmaker Rokeya Sultana is widely recognized for her abstract and figurative works that draw upon modern and traditional Bangladeshi art traditions. Her practice is informed by society, culture, history, and her personal experiences as a woman in Bangladesh. In Earth, Water, Air, Sultana brings together abstraction and landscape through layered forms and symbolic imagery, creating a personal reflection on her life and artistic journey.
Sultana studied at the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, and at Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan, India. She was later awarded residencies at L’Atelier Lacourière et Frélaut in Paris and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln through a Fulbright grant. Sultana has exhibited around the world and is currently a professor at the University of Dhaka, where she continues to teach printmaking.
