Teo Nguyen is a Minneapolis-based artist working in painting, photography, and film. He often draws scenes from his car as he travels through the rural Upper Midwest. As Nguyen describes it, he returns to his studio “with a sketch and a memory. And a story I want to tell”—a foundation for his large-scale landscapes. By emphasizing the scenery, light, and atmosphere in his Eclogue series, he seeks to “open the eyes of Minnesotans and their northern brethren to the sublime beauty that surrounds us.” For Nguyen, “home has never been a fixed place”; his paintings are an attempt to preserve fleeting experiences of it. In doing so, he works “not just as an artist but as an archivist of the ephemeral.”
