Ursula Hargens is a Minneapolis-based ceramic artist whose work is informed by the natural world and environmental change. In these three tiles, she draws on historic botanical illustrations in the collections of the Wangensteen Historical Library of Biology and Medicine and the Andersen Horticultural Library at the University of Minnesota. By translating the original illustrations into three-dimensional form, Hargens evokes the luminosity of these rare books while gesturing toward the vulnerability of the Minnesota wildflowers they depict.
