Twin

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, identical twins Jerry and Terry Lynn have been painting together collaboratively since they were old enough to hold a crayon. Now the distinctive characteristics of two personalities are interwoven in paintings that appear to be the work of a single artist. Their decision to sign their paintings with the singular “Twin” speaks to the intimacy of their collaboration.

Jerry and Terry Lynn usually work side by side building up layers of paint and collage until an image emerges. The work is based on stories told to them by their grandparents and relatives and from their own experiences growing up in the South. Rhythms, legacy, power, motherland, history, church, religion, and antebellum are all words that describe the paintings in their Southern Secrets series, which includes the works Autumn, The River Cried, and Gathering II. Both artists received their degrees from the University of Memphis, Tennessee, Jerry Lynn in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, and Terry Lynn in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts.
