Aliza Nisenbaum

Aliza Nisenbaum is best known for her portrait paintings, which are fundamentally studies about intimacy. She spends many hours getting to know her subjects: sitting with them in person, becoming a part of their communities, and learning about their lives. She began working with portraiture in relation to community organizing in 2013 at the Immigrant Movement International, a grassroots association headquartered in Queens, New York.
