Barbara Ellmann

Painting in encaustic for over twenty-five years, Barbara Ellmann explores landmarks and symbols cataloging humanity’s experience and sense of place. Influenced by the design and texture of fabric, Ellmann employs “varying degrees of abstraction to portray fleeting impressions from observation and memory.” She executes her paintings in large, square grids through a technique that uses hot wax to establish “connections between visual records of places near and far.”
