Barbara Hall

I am a fabric artist and quilt maker. In working with fabric, I connect to the generations of women whose creative expression found a home in sewing scraps of fabric together.

The patterns, shapes and colors offered them a window of beauty in a time of isolation, honored generational ties, and gave them solace in their time of grief. Often these quilts told family stories and held the dreams of grandmothers, mothers and daughters.

In working with contemporary fabric, I explore color, shape, line and texture by layering fabrics together in traditional quilt assemblage, and embellishing the fabric with thread, beads and other materials. My subject matter reflects both personal life experiences, as well as, the natural and urban environment in which I live.
