Lorene Anderson

Painter Lorene Anderson is interested in the manipulation of two-dimensional space: math, cosmology, physics, and their relationship to biology. In her words, “I frequently pour paint and employ gestural brushwork and carved squeegees to pull paint across surfaces creating linear, layered compositions. I paint what exists between the eye and what is being observed, turning the invisible into something visible. While painting Reef, I happened to watch quite a few documentaries about ocean life—especially coral reefs. I’m not illustrating this interest, it fed the work and influenced my methods, material choices, and my approach to this painting.”
