Louise Hall

I studied Dress Designing from 1948 to 1951 and rec’d a great deal of exposure to other art forms, as well. I have continued my studies in Millinery, Dyeing of Fabric, Quilting, Beading, Jewelry Making, Surface Designing, Photography, Charcoal Drawing, and Painting on Canvas over the years.

Fabric, Texture, and Color have always intrigued and inspired me. I have always created Wearable Art and Original Clothing; Art Quilts since 1984; and now Photography and Watercolor & Acrylic Paintings. As a Correspondent Photographer/Writer for the North Port SUN, I cover several events each week on the Arts & other activities in the Community. My ‘heart’ sings with joy at a creative challenge!

There have been numerous Awards: Best Of Show, Originality, Judge’s Choice, and many First, Second, Third, & Honorable Mention Ribbons. Several of my Artworks have been displayed in Public Places. I am especially proud of the fact that my Racism Wall Quilt has been displayed in several Galleries & Shows throughout the U.S. and in the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan, Istanbul.

I love to share what I have learned with adults and children. It gives me pleasure to inspire and encourage others.

Artist’s Statement:Fabric: design, color, texture speak to me, foremost. A client’s figure concerns, the occasion, and wear ability are taken into consideration when creating original clothing. Regarding an art quilt, the message is paramount to me and inspires my creativity. As a method or technique is learned, it is incorporated into present and future projects. Therefore my artwork is ever changing. I use the computer and paintbrush to reinforce a statement that I wish to convey and hopefully inspire in depth thinking by viewers.

Many special surface design techniques are incorporated into my artwork: dyeing of fabric, beading, machine thread painting, free motion machine embroidery, foiling, silk screen printing, and polymer clay original buttons. Whether it is a garment, a wall quilt, or a painting, the viewer need not be aware of the complex methods used to reach the end result; just the visual pleasure and/or message!

As for my photography and writing, it gives me personal satisfaction to promote the North Port Art Center, other artists’ works, special community events and group activities through the local newspaper.
