Lynn Sures

Recent solo exhibitions include Navigating Below the Surface at Isik University, Istanbul; Frasassi at Pyramid Atlantic, Silver Spring, MD; and Body Art at the Fortezza Medicea Girifalco di Cortona, Italy. Her artist’s books appear in the Penland Book of Handmade Books, 500 Artist Books and the 2010 Paper in Motion portfolio published by Hand Papermaking. Her work is in collections of the United States Department of State, the Library of Congress, Yale University, and the American Museum of Papermaking. Lynn has created large-scale pulp paintings for international events in Australia and Japan—and exhibited and lectured in Sri Lanka as an American Artist Abroad. She leads annual book arts workshops with Italian master craftsmen in Fabriano, Italy. Recent awards include Individual Artist Awards and Creative Works Grants from Maryland and an Artist Award from the George Sugarman Foundation. Lynn is Founding Director of the National Collegiate Handmade Paper Art Triennial exhibition, a board member of the World Crafts Council North America, and co-host of the 2010 Pulp Painting Symposium in San Antonio, TX. Her latest article for Hand Papermaking magazine is “Engraved in Wax and Time, The Chiaroscuro Watermarks of Annarita Librari.”
